Pickleball in Olympia, Washington

Olympia's local scene centers on four dedicated public courts at Woodruff Park, inexpensive indoor open play at The Olympia Center, and a larger regional network in Lacey and Tumwater. Players can find free outdoor games, low-cost indoor rotations, club instruction, and major senior competition within a short drive.

Where to Play

Woodruff Park

Woodruff Park, 1500 Harrison Avenue NW, Olympia, WA 98502, has four dedicated outdoor pickleball courts with permanent nets, windscreens, restrooms, and water-removal equipment. The courts are free, and open play typically gathers daily from 9 a.m. to noon.

The Olympia Center

The Olympia Center, 222 Columbia Street NW, Olympia, WA 98501, has three indoor courts. Community play runs Monday through Friday from 1:15 to 4:15 p.m. and Saturday from 1 to 3:30 p.m.; an early session runs Tuesday and Thursday from 7:45 to 10 a.m. Drop-in play has historically cost $2, with punch cards available at the first-floor desk.

Stevens Field and LBA Park

Stevens Field, 300 24th Avenue SE, and LBA Park, 3333 Morse-Merryman Road SE, each have two outdoor tennis courts lined for pickleball. Both are free and useful for prearranged games; bring portable nets and a broom or blower because these are shared neighborhood courts rather than staffed pickleball facilities.

Lessons and Beginner Play

Woodruff's morning rotation welcomes recreational players and is the simplest place to learn through play. For formal instruction, Steamboat Tennis and Athletic Club at 3505 Steamboat Island Road NW has eight indoor courts lined for pickleball and offers club programming. Independent local instruction is also available through the Coaches section.

Open Play, Leagues, and Events

The Thurston County Pickleball Club organizes play and regional events around Olympia and Lacey. The 2026 Capital Pickleball Classic ran June 27-28 with skill divisions from 3.0 through 4.5. The next major local competition is the Washington State Senior Games, August 6-9, 2026, at Rainier Vista Community Park, 5475 45th Avenue SE in Lacey, with women's doubles Thursday, mixed doubles Friday, men's doubles Saturday, and singles Sunday.

Visitor Planning

Woodruff Park is the best first stop in dry weather: the courts are dedicated, free, and most likely to have partners between 9 a.m. and noon. On rainy days, The Olympia Center offers the most economical indoor route and Steamboat Tennis and Athletic Club offers more court capacity. Visitors bringing their own group can use Stevens Field or LBA Park, but should pack a portable net and court-cleaning gear.
